Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Therapy with Dr. Haica Rosenfeld
What can I expect during my first therapy session?
Your first session typically lasts about 60 minutes and it focuses on getting to know you and your needs. During this time, we will review important information such as confidentiality, privacy (HIPAA), and the policies and procedures of my practice. We will then begin to explore your main concerns, current challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
We may also talk about how the therapy process works, what our roles will look like, and whether it feels like a good fit to continue working together. You will have space to ask any questions and share any concerns about starting therapy, your comfort level, or my approach.
For individuals struggling with eating disorders or disordered eating, the initial assessment process may take up to three sessions. This allows us to fully understand your needs, determine the appropriate level of care, and create a thoughtful treatment plan. If outpatient therapy is appropriate, I may also recommend collaborating with other professionals (such as a psychiatrist, nutritionist, or medical doctor), as a multidisciplinary approach is often most effective in supporting recovery.
How often will we meet for therapy?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which typically last 55 or 75 minutes (agreed upon in advance). Meeting weekly helps build a strong therapeutic relationship, develop effective coping skills, and support steady progress toward your goals.
In some cases, you may benefit from longer or more frequent sessions, especially during more challenging periods or when engaging in deeper work, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS). At other times, sessions may shift to every other week, depending on your needs and progress.
If we decide to work together, we will collaborate to find a schedule that feels supportive, sustainable, and aligned with your individual goals.
How many therapy session will I need?
The number of therapy sessions varies from person to person. Some individuals seek short-term support focused on a specific concern, while others engage in longer-term therapy to address more complex or ongoing challenges.
It can take time to understand what you are looking for and whether you would like to continue therapy on an ongoing basis. We will regularly check in to make sure therapy is meeting your needs and adjust the pace and focus as needed.
It is also common for people to return to therapy at different points in their lives. Some clients come for support around a specific issue, take time away, and later return to continue their work or address new challenges.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not in-network with insurance plans. However, I can provide you with a document called a superbill, which you may submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Depending on your plan, you may be eligible for out-of-network benefits, which can result in partial or, in some cases, full reimbursement. Because every insurance plan is different, I recommend contacting your provider in advance to better understand your specific coverage.
Some helpful questions to ask your insurance provider include:
-
Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?
-
Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it this year?
-
How many therapy sessions are covered per year?
-
What percentage of each session is reimbursed?
-
Do I have coverage for telehealth sessions?
-
Is preauthorization required to begin therapy?
Please note that, in order to receive reimbursement, your insurance provider may require a mental health diagnosis. If you prefer to work as a private-pay client, a diagnosis is not required.
While I am happy to provide the necessary documentation, I cannot guarantee reimbursement, as this depends on your individual insurance plan.
How much does therapy cost?
Therapy is an investment in your well-being, and I strive to be transparent about fees so you can make an informed decision.
-
Initial session (60 minutes): $250
-
Ongoing individual or family sessions (55 minutes): $200
-
Extended sessions (75 minutes): $270
I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for individuals with financial need. If this applies to you, you are welcome to inquire. Because availability is limited, I kindly ask that this option be reserved for those who truly need it.
Finding the right support is important, and I want you to feel you have options. If my fees are not accessible at this time, I recommend exploring resources such as https://openpathcollective.org, which offers a directory of therapists providing lower-cost services. I am also happy to help guide you toward other options if needed.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.
How do I pay for therapy sessions?
Payment is due at the time of each scheduled session.
I accept all major credit and debit cards, which are securely processed through Square, a HIPAA-compliant payment platform.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Appointments cancelled, missed, or rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice (except in case of emergency) will be charged the full session fee. Because of the short notice, it is often not possible to fill the reserved time. However, if I am able to offer your time slot to another client, you will not be charged.
For Monday appointments, cancellations or rescheduling must be made by Friday before 12:00 PM (EST) to avoid the late cancellation fee.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact me as soon as possible at 305-401-2026. You may leave a confidential voicemail if needed. Providing advance notice allows the opportunity for another client to use that time. Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
